Career Connections Interns Graduate from International Project SEARCH® Program
Three interns are now looking for employment after Arc Herkimer’s Career Connections’ 2020-2021 Project SEARCH® program wrapped up with a graduation ceremony.
Project SEARCH® is an internationally trademarked internship program that focuses on emplyment for young adults with disabilities. The local program is a collaboration between Career Connections and Herkimer College.
The forty week partnership has an intensive focus on achieving competitive employment and maximum independence for each participant. Each intern participates in both instruction and hands-on work experience by rotating among three unique internships throughout the year.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s program looked a little different than usual because of restrictions. According to Career Connections Director Catherine Loomis, “The entire Career Connections team, along with Herkimer College, worked tirelessly to ensure that the program would be successful again this year, despite all of the challenges they faced.”
This year’s interns rotated between the MV Golf & Event Center, Arc Herkimer Transportation Services, and the Arc Herkimer Goods Store. The skills learned by the interns are now marketable in their search for community employment.
A small graduation ceremony was held at the MV Golf & Event Center to celebrate the interns’ accomplishments and to wish them well in their future endeavors.
